Get the safest ATEX diaphragm pump
for Zone 0 applications

ARO is the only leading global manufacturer to offer ATEX Zone 0 diaphragm pumps

ATEX Zone 0 approved air operated diaphragm pumps for use in explosive areas

ARO air operated diaphragm pumps recently were certified for use in ATEX Zone 0 environments. This achievement allows us to offer pumps for even the highest explosion risk applications. Now we can guarantee trouble-free pump performance under the most hazardous conditions.

With more than 90 years of history, ARO is a leader in the design and production of pneumatic diaphragm pumps. We offer a complete ATEX pump range for explosive environments.

Most industrial activities, from chemical processing to paint applications, are subject to potentially explosive atmospheres. If the production processes occur in ATEX areas, it is essential that equipment in these areas have ATEX certification, in accordance with the classification of the work area. In our large diaphragm pump equipment group, ARO manufactures ATEX diaphragm pumps certified for ZONE 0, ZONE 1 and ZONE 2.

The ATEX Zone 0 rating indicates an area in which an explosive atmosphere is present.

ATEX certified pneumatic diaphragm pumps for Zone 0

Air operated diaphragm pumps that meet the highest requirements for ATEX certification: Zone 0

Pneumatic diaphragm pumps are typically the best fluid handling option for ATEX Zone 0 areas.

A pneumatic diaphragm pump compliant with ATEX directives enables safe operation of such units in potentially explosive atmospheres (flammable substances, dusts, gas, vapor and more). ARO is the only leading global pump manufacturer to offer a complete range of ATEX pumps for use in zones including Zone 0, 1 and 2.

ATEX zone classification

Hazardous area can be defined as any location where there is risk of explosion. However, every hazardous area is different. Each has specific requirements depending on the nature of the atmosphere and type of explosive material present.

Fundamentally, for an explosion to take place, flammable or explosive gasses, vapors, mists or dusts will be present. Then, the level of risk is based on the frequency and duration of the occurrence of these hazardous elements. This level is represented by an ATEX rating of Zone 0, Zone 1 or Zone 2 (for gas, vapor and mist atmospheres) or Zone 21 or Zone 22 for dust atmospheres.

  • Category 1: Zone 0
Zone 0 is an area in which an explosive atmosphere is present continuously for long periods of time or will frequently occur.
  • Category 2: Zone 1
Zone 1 is an area in which an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur occasionally in normal operation. It may exist because of repair, maintenance operations or leakage.
  • Category 3: Zone 2
Zone 2 is a place in which an explosive atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation. If it does occur, conditions will persist for a short period only.

Level of risk represented by an ATEX rating of Zone 0, Zone 1 or Zone 2.
